Common rules of tennis

Before you start throwing money at bets on these Irish tennis betting sites. You should first make sure you understand the game and at the very least some of the rules.

The aim of the game:

Tennis is played on a court that is rectangular and has a net down the middle of it. The objective is to hit the ball over the net so that it lands inside the court’s margins and is unable to be returned by your opponent. Every time your opponent is unable to return the ball inside the court, you score a point.

How many players take part?

Typically there are 2 players in a game of tennis. One player per team. In some instances, you will see doubles matches where 2 people go against another 2 people as teams.

Understanding the points system of tennis

Tennis games require four points to be scored in order to win. The game would terminate after the fourth point, which is known as the victory point. The other points are known as 15, 30, and 40. Deuce would be used if the score ended up 40–40. When the score is tied at two, the player must win by two straight points.

How can you win a tennis match?

The first player to achieve 6 games, but they must be ahead by at least 2 games, wins the set. If the other team wins five games, you have to take the set 7-5. The first player who reaches 7 points in the game wins the tiebreak if the set is still tied at 6-6. They must win in a predetermined number of sets (for example the best of three for all women’s matches and the best of five for all men’s matches) in order to win the game.

Tennis accumulators are just like other sports accumulators where you make a multi-bet for your bet slip. The majority of accumulators include 4 or more bets, however sometimes as low as three or 5+ can also be eligible. You normally need to win all legs of the bet slip to win.

Tennis over and under betting is when you bet on how many sets the overall match will take to complete. You get to bet over or under an amount (the set amount) and if you are successful you win. You could bet under 2.5 sets for example.

In-play betting can overlap many of the other betting types as it’s not so much the outcome that matters in this instance but instead the way in which a bet is placed. Normally bets are placed before the event even takes place, however, in-play betting is when you make a bet while the game is happening. I will be using Coral for our example of how to place tennis bets

Step #1: Sign up as a new user or login to your account

Once you have opened the Coral homepage you will be able to either login (if you already have an account) or can easily sign up as a new user if this is your first time. To do this just click the relevant button at the top right of the screen. New users should click the yellow “Join” button.

This will then open a brand new window for you to register your personal information.

This window below is the first of three screens you will see as part of the registration form. You will need to select your country of residence (Ireland), and your chosen currency (EUR) followed by your email address, chosen username and a secure password.

On the next two pages, you will need to enter your full legal name, home address, phone number and gender. Lastly, you will need to select your deposit limits and select which ways the site can contact you – usually by email or phone.

Step #2: Find your sport & betting market

Step #3: Choose your betting market within the tennis event

So, you have chosen the specific sporting event in tennis you wish to bet on, but what market do you want to place your wagers on? You’ll see from my image below that the automatic assumption is the outright winning result which is what I am going to place my money on. If you would prefer to change to a different market, match or event you can do so by choosing “matches” on the blue bar, or by clicking the “competitions” button above that.

Once you are happy with your selection you can move to the next step of placing the bet.

Step #4: Placing a bet

All you need to do once you have decided which outcome you want to bet on is click on the odds value next to that outcome. As you can see below, the bet I am placing has highlighted the odds value in green so you know what you have clicked and you will also notice that this bet is now in the bet slip to the right of the page.

Everything you need to understand about bets is in the bet slip. All you need to do is decide how much you would like to bet on the outcome in question and then input that value in the “stake” box. This will then automatically calculate the potential winnings you would get if your prediction came true. This is a good time to play around with the stake value and see what value you are happy betting with, as well as decide if you are happy with the potential earnings. As you will notice, the earnings value will change each time you update the stake amount.

Step #5: Deposit your funds

As you will notice from my image above, I cannot finalise or place my bet without the correct amount of money in my betting account. Sometimes you can do this step before you find your markets but really you can do it at any time before the bet is placed. The site will not allow you to place a bet without funds. All you need to do to finish your bet here is to click the green “make a deposit” button which will take you to the below windows. Step #6: Settling your bets
