On Friday 13th September, some of the finest female golfers from the US will be taking on their counterparts from Team Europe in what is the first back-to-back Solheim Cup year to avoid clashing with Ryder Cup years.
Off the back of a losing streak, team USA will be hoping that they can bring the cup back to the US as they battle it out on home soil.
But what are the bookmakers saying? How does the competition work? Who’s in the teams? In this article, we will explore all.
Solheim Cup Bookmaker Odds
With this year’s Solheim Cup being held at the Robert Trent Jones Golf Club in Gainesville, Virginia, it is Stacy Lewis’ Team USA that is the current favourite with the majority of bookmakers opting for home advantage to bring this one home.
As you can see though, this is by no means a foregone conclusion:

Played over three days, the Solheim Cup is made up of four balls for the opening two days of the competition, followed by 12 singles matches on the last day.
Like the Ryder Cup, each match winner obtains a point for their team whilst matches that end in a draw earn each half a point.
Should the competition end in an overall draw, the previous winner of the trophy retains the trophy which the Americans will be keen to avoid.
Who Made the Cut?
Usually, a points-based system determines who makes each team but each captain also has several picks that they can call on to make up the rest of the team.
This year, US captain Stacy Lewis leads 12 golfers featuring 9 familiar faces who competed in last year’s competition and with some big names in her roster, Lewis will be surely fancying her chances:
- Nelly Korda
- Lilia Vu
- Lauren Coughlin
- Ally Ewing
- Allisen Corpuz
- Megan Khang
- Andrea Lee
- Rose Zhang
- Alison Lee
- Lexi Thompson (captain’s pick)
- Jennifer Kupcho (captain’s pick)
- Sarah Schmelzel (captain’s pick)
Meanwhile, Suzann Pettersen leads Team Europe for a second year running with 10 returners from the draw in Malaga. Pettersen will be hoping for more European supremacy with an impressive team:
- Charley Hull (England)
- Esther Henseleit (Germany)
- Celine Boutier (France)
- Maja Stark (Sweden)
- Linn Grant (Sweden)
- Leona Maguire (Ireland)
- Carlota Ciganda (Spain)
- Madelene Sagström (Sweden)
- Georgia Hall (England, captain’s pick)
- Anna Nordqvist (Sweden, captain’s pick)
- Emily Kristine Pedersen (Demark, captain’s pick)
- Albane Valenzuela (Switzerland, captain’s pick)
Team Europe are the defenders of the Solheim Cup title with last year’s Malaga culminating in a draw but prior to that, Europe won the Solheim Cup in 2021 when it was held in Ohio, as well as in 2019 when Scotland played host to the prestigious event.
This means that it’s been a whole 8 years since the Solheim Cup stayed on American soil when Team USA came out on top in Iowa.
Despite her recent slip-up at the Women’s Open, world number 1 Nelly Korda will be hoping to help push her team over the line and her teammate compatriot Lilia Vu further bolsters Team USA’s chances of lifting the trophy.
One has to go down the rankings to 9th to spot a European golfer in Celine Boutier of France but when it comes up to the Solheim Cup, rankings are thrown out the window!
