Delacroix Vying for the Bookies’ Favour at the Epsom Derby

Generally speaking, when talking about horse races, most of the major bookies tend to have a consensus on who their favourite will be. However, this isn’t the case with the Epsom Derby, where there’s not really a clear contender for the overall favourite – and, as such, the horse racing world is watching with great anticipation to see whether the odds are likely to settle in time for the event. One such horse currently vying for the top spot is Delacroix, who has suddenly rushed onto the scene with an impressive form.

But can Delacroix stand a chance to win the Epsom Derby, or will his competitors prove more than this very young colt can handle? Well, let’s take a look!

Can Delacroix Take the Crown at the Epsom Derby?

The Epsom Derby’s rapidly approaching now, and as a result, interest is piquing in the racers and which horses are likely to take the crown. Just one such favourite to win the Derby is Delacroix, a colt that’s on stellar form.

However, he’s not the only horse in the runnings to win, and with odds of 7/2, 3/1, and 4/1 with Bet365, Ladbrokes, and Unibet, respectively, it’s safe to say that the bookies just aren’t unanimous on whether or not he should be the top pick.

Looking at Recent Form

Trained by Irish trainer A P O’Brien, Delacroix is definitely one of the most promising youngsters on the racing scene, having entered the racing world with explosive form! In fact, in all of his seven lifetime outings, this incredible young horse hasn’t once come lower than second – making him an incredibly strong contender for the Epsom Derby, the renowned race for up and coming three-year-olds.

Perhaps the most impressive of all his runs came at Leopardstown in mid May, when he ran with a starting price of around ⅓ in a pack of five. This followed his previous win at Leopardstown in late March, where he started with a still incredible 4/7 starting price in a race of seven.

Given this, it’s easy to see why Delacroix is such a strong pick for the upcoming Epsom Derby. However, it’s important to consider that, while his recent form is exceptional, he’s not the only horse vying for the position of favourite – and there are other racers who will undoubtedly also put up a strong fight.

How Does Delacroix Compare to The Other Favourite Contenders?

While Delacroix is definitely up there among the best, he’s not the only horse trying for the spot of starting price favourite. Ruling Court, The Lion in Winter, and Pride of Arras are all also very close in odds to Delacroix, with The Lion in Winter looking to be the current favourite primarily. However, this really depends on which bookie you look at, as they’re all offering incredibly different odds. In other words, there’s no way to say for certain.

It’s interesting, though, that the Lion in Winter is currently touted as the average favourite, given his recent form is incredibly lacking; in fact, while he had two very impressive wins at Curragh and York last year, he only came sixth out of eleven at York this month. So, there certainly seems the potential for Delacroix to impress the bookies yet.

Final Thoughts

As an incredibly young horse, Delacroix is something of an unknown on the racetrack, but his recent form has undoubtedly set him in good stead to potentially perform well at the upcoming Epsom Derby. However, with plenty of other fresh young horses in the running, there’s no way to confidently say whether Delacroix will be able to handle the pressure. In the end, this will likely come down to luck and form on the day, and we’ll be following developments with interest.
