Leinster Vs Clermont – Leinster Strong Favourites
French rugby superstars ASM Clermont Auvergne will come to Dublin for a European heavyweight clash tomorrow evening. These two teams have a lot of depth and have been in fine form over the last few years. Expectations are high with the Irish province and Leinster fans are expecting to once again see their talisman signing Jordie Barrett in the starting lineup.
Let’s take a look at the recent form for both teams and the odds that the Irish bookies are giving them:
Leinster
Leinster are the envy of many teams these days. Their academy and integration with the Dublin schools system has been producing fine rugby players and a high budget means they’re able to bolster their squad with world-class players such as the aforementioned Jordie Barrett and RG Snyman.
Leinster have won this competition 4 times and will be hoping that they can be the team once again lifting the trophy in Cardiff come May. Such a win will put them just one title away from Toulouse as the most successful team in European Rugby Cup history. The market has them at around 12/5 to do that.
- Win (Bristol)
- Win (Ulster)
- Win (Lions)
- Win (Connacht)
- Win (Munster)

Clermont
Word on the street is that the savvy English fly-half George Ford is set to be moving to the French giants come the end of the season. Clermont is certainly not short-stocked, they currently sit in third place in the Top 14 and have been in fine form during their last few games.
Having said that, 7 points separate the Parisian outfit with Toulouse so they’re not quite seen in the same class as teams like Leinster and Toulouse at the time of writing.
Take a look at the market for outright European Cup glory and it appears that Clermont Auvergne has already been written off with odds of 100/1 being standard at the time of writing.
Such odds seem a little extreme given this is a successful club that sits at third in their domestic league and is coming off the back of four consecutive wins. However, this is a competition that requires quality in abundance and it could be that Clermont does not have as much depth as it seems.
- Win (Benetton)
- Win (Castres)
- Win (Lyon)
- Win (Bordeaux)
- Loss (Stade Francais)
